Meji period, circa 1900, Japanese cigarette case  with spots of red lacquer on the exterior to give the impression of well-worn “rusty” iron.  The front has a diamond cartouche with an eagle (a branch in its beak) rendered in uchidashi.  The interior of the case has been decorated with black and gold lacquer.
